Gowns, gowns, gowns!!! Can you tell I’m super excited about what I’m sharing with you tonight?!

Two weekends ago I was lucky enough to see the “Oscar de la Renta: The Retrospective” exhibit at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. If you’re in the Bay Area and enjoy fashion GO! It’ll be there until May 30th, 2016 and has been very popular so get your tickets now…you won’t regret it ;)!

Oscar de la Renta was truly a class act. I believe that showed through his designs and the clothes he made. The craftsmanship and attention to detail in his garments are impeccable.

I’m a huge fan of his gowns as they’re very classic, ultra feminine, chic, glamorous and all around stunning! From gilded feathers, to bejeweled bodices, cotton candy tulle and embroidered embellishments his clothes are all encompassing of glam. He was a savvy business man, seemed intelligent and kind. “Be the designer of your own destiny…” was a quote of his. He was extremely talented and understood women which made him uber successful.

When I worked in couture sales our Oscar de la Renta trunk show days were like Christmas as I would get to try on several exclusive and insanely pretty gowns. Each and every single dress, and especially the gowns, that he made are amazing…legitimately so beautiful!!!

The exhibit showcases outfits and gowns that have been worn by: Rihanna, Hilary Clinton, Diana Vreeland, Penelope Cruz, Barbara Bush, Karlie Kloss, Jessica Chastain, Nicki Minaj, Amy Adams and a slew of socialites and royalty. My favorite part of this exhibit was seeing all the iconic gowns from last year’s Met Gala (aka Ball) that Oscar designed.

In 2015 at the Met Ball Sarah Jessica Parker wore the amazing black and white window-pane gown complete with Oscar’s signature in red on the bottom…so swoon worthy no?! Also, the pale pink satin gown designed to perfection with a huge bow under the low dipping back that Taylor Swift was so lucky to wear is phenomenal and made her look like a modern day Marilyn Monroe. Can I have that dress?! Scratch that I don’t even need to own it, I just want to try it on and take a few photos in it ;).

His pieces are elegant and timeless and to make me like him even more I learned that he opened up an orphanage in his home country, the Dominican Republic, adopted a son from that same orphanage and seemed to be someone that most people who knew him really respected and loved, which isn’t always the case in the fashion world.

I’ll finish up this essay post with one of the best fashion quotes around was said by Mr. de la Renta: “I am not interested in shock tactics. I just want to make beautiful clothes.”

That you did Oscar, that you did.

xoxo “Cheers to you Oscar, one of the best designers in the history of fashion” Sera 🙂
